In the year 1888, a lady by the name of Lottie Moon was a missionary in China. She was the first single lady that the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention had ever sent to the mission field. She saw that the work of spreading the gospel to the millions of people of China was going to require a large number of missionaries, so she sent a request to the Foreign Mission Board for more. Thus was born the first world missions offering of S.B.C. churches. A total of # 3,315 was collected, and three additional missionaries were sent to Miss Moon in China. The annual offering was named the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in 1918, six years after the death of this pioneer missionary. From $3,315 in 1888 to a goal of $210 million in 2025, this annual offering has come a long way! It must be noted that every penny given through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goes directly to the missionaries on the field to purchase supplies to assist them in their work of spreading the gospel to the numerous peoples' groups around the world. You can be assured that when you give your mission offering, it will go to the places of greatest need. It has been my joy to promote and give to this offering every year since I became a pastor. Our W.M.U. has challenged Balmoral with a goal of $2,500 for this year. The price of a soul is far beyond what money can measure, so we want to give generously toward this year's offering. Use the mission offering envelope found in the bulletin or on the table in the foyer. Pray over this envelope as you seek God's will on what he would want you to give. Put your offering in the envelope and bring it next Sunday. During the Sunday morning worship time on December 28th, we will formally dedicate this year's offering to the Lord and to the missionaries who will be the recipients of it. You cannot outgive God!
